Interpersonal theory + research>>> SOCIAL CLOCK

SOCIAL CLOCK

FEEL OUT OF STEP..? WHY,..?.
IT IS IMPORTANT???

Social clock is a personal sense of when things should be done in one's life and when one is ahead of or behind the schedule dictated by ages norms. Thats means what you suppose to do when you reach certain age , certain time determine by your culture..
For example,in a small indian community,as soon as they finish form5, they will get marry. Due to the reason that more than half of the community married at that particular age and you are not, they might think that u cant get a boyfriend or feel that u r wierd n pity u like that(julia said got girlfriend wat)@@
There is another example , when u find out that most of your friends are managers, n you are still studying, your cuturals might also expect that you suppose to be at this level also. people will start to ask how come you doing your degree or master so late... ... ...and might think that you fail your result. but mayb the reason that i'm still studying is just that i don't want to work or step out to the wide society that early.
With this, we can see that cultures tell us what to do next and they expect you to do certain things by a certain age.And of course it is depending on what culture you are from.
So,is it important?? it is depends on how u think of it.Sometimes if we don't follow the guideline, people will give you preseure as well as look down on you. But, on the other hand,
it can be also an advantage that people have aim to keep going on their works or whatever they are doing.

  1. great one... i do agree about social clock thing is important in our lives.. but then we also have to take note that sometimes due to social clock, it brings out desperation and anxiety.. for example, when everyone urge u to be married cause u are at the age to get married, u will go with their say because u also believe it is time to get married.. however, u might not be mentally ready to get married or love ur partner enough to be married.. so either way, the marriage may go to an end sooner than u thought

  2. In my opinion, social clock just a guideline for you to follow. If you think that guideline is not suitable for you to follow, then you can change it and no need to follow it. This is because your future is in your hand and you can choose the path that you liked by your own. You must not bother others' views because they are not you.

  3. girls' parent is always the one who pressure guys to marry with their daughers.. lolzz..

by the way, during my secondary school time, people in my school think that we shud have our driving license and drive ourselve without expecting on parents as driver anymore. ignore those who dun posses vehicle, if u hav ability to own a vehicle(as family financial background), u shud hav one. or else, u wil be treated as mama's boy or being pampered. XD

  5. Social Clock...Hmm...It's quite important for us. However, social clock do have advantage and disadvantage.

Advantage: It can be a guide line for us when we are lost. If you know your social clock, you can refer to it. Also, you may choose to folloe or not to follow. This can prevent a bird fly without direction.

Disadvantage: If you choose not to follow your social clock (Culture), people will give you pressure and look down on you. Some may also feel that you like "betray" your own culture.
Deviance...Is what you do with not follow your social clock or own culture.

For example, in past few decades, adult male went out to work, to earn money, and to support the family in the field of finance. However, adult female stay at home to care for family members, to do housework and to cook.
But, nowadays, the society has changed. Both adult male and female are working outside. (Female are not necessary stay at home.)
